I then open a terminal (there are other ways I suppose) and type: cd /media/whatever-the-Fritz-CD-is-called and then type: wine Setup.exe and follow along as it installs the way it does on Windows. Highlight that item in the search results and click on "Install" button. The first item that comes up in your search results is what you want. In the search box (upper right) type "wine" without the quotes.

To install wine on Ubuntu 10.04 using the Ubuntu Software Center: click on Applications then run "Ubuntu Software Center". In that folder, you should see the original gui8.iup file. On my system, its C:Program Files (x86)ChessBaseChessProgram8. Fritz 8.0 is rated regardless of the current situation or history of moves. Instead, it has were 1 win, 4 losses, and 7 draws for black, and 2 devoted an equal amount of time for each move, wins, 6 losses, and 4 draws for white. I just have not had the need and the last Fritz I purchased was Fritz 8 (a LONG time ago). Now, with Fritz 8 shut down, go to your Fritz 8 folder. The results of 12 games played on each side the use of time per move as a facet of play. I have not tried to run any Fritz engines under wine. There are many others that will work (all 32-bit) but those are ones I've used in the past. For normal analysis, all engines find the best move within a few milliseconds in 99.99 of positions.
The current engines are only tested against other engines. Engines I have successfully installed inside the GUI are Rybka-3 32-bit and Stockfish 1.7.1 32-bit. The new Fritz18 engine has become about 30-40 Elo points stronger, but that is of no practical relevance. I successfully run Shredder 8 (the GUI) on Ubuntu using wine.
